Date picker returns Null in Firefox

I am using Firefox 29.0.  If I select a date in my BSP using the date picker which comes up by default with an <htmlb:inputField> of type date, a null is returned.  The calendar appears, I can choose a date, but null shows up as the returned value in the input field.  Any suggestions?
